60 Million Nigerians Battling Mental Illness
A psychiatrist at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr Emmanuel Abayomi, says about 60 million are currently battling mental illnesses.
Abayomi spoke at a NAS Medical Mission workshop in Abeokuta for World Mental Health Day, highlighting increasing mental health issues in Nigeria.
He noted that approximately 60 million Nigerians suffer from mental health conditions, significantly higher than the global average of one in eight.
Key issues include anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse, with isolation and excessive phone use negatively impacting mental wellbeing.
He emphasized the importance of discussions around mental health to ensure those affected receive treatment, which can lead to recovery and improved quality of life.
Recommendations for better mental health include regular sleep, a balanced diet, hydration, physical activity, and social connection.

PENGASSAN Strike: Reps Seek Protection For Dangote Refinery, Strategic Investments
The Nigerian House of Representatives has passed a resolution to protect strategic private investments from future industrial actions, following a strike action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) over a dispute with the Dangote Refinery.
The resolution emphasized that the industrial action may have breached the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) Act, which stipulates a 10-year no-strike rule for investments within FTZs.
The House also called for policy frameworks to prevent future incidents.
