The Group Chief Executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, explained that the recent shortage of cooking gas is due to disruptions caused by the strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), which led to delays in operations and an “artificial” price increase.
He noted that some retailers exploited the situation by raising prices, but assured that as supply chains stabilize, cooking gas prices are expected to decrease in the coming weeks, reverting to pre-strike levels.
