Nigeria’s National Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has warned against illegal migration, describing such journeys as voluntary suicide missions.
The commission’s Chairperson, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, received Miss Mercy Oluwabanga, a 24-year-old student of business administration, who was rescued from Libya after escaping extreme hardship from her employers.
Oluwabanga, who dropped out of the University of Ilorin in 2018, had left Nigeria in December 2021 through illegal routes.
The commission, the President of the Nigerian Community in Libya, and Dr Segun Abraham, the founder of Trinity Foundation, collaborated to rescue her.
Oluwabanga expressed gratitude for the swift response and pledged to join the advocacy against illegal migration to dissuade Nigerians from engaging in such fruitless journeys.
