Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has emphasized the need for policemen to be equipped with the latest technological tools to combat insecurity in Nigeria.
He argued that the force cannot fight 21st-century crimes with outdated tools, as criminals are sophisticated, well-funded, and internationally connected.
Egbetokun emphasized the importance of embracing technology such as surveillance systems, drones, biometric scanners, and real-time data analysis.
He also highlighted the need for Nigeria’s vast and complex borders, which are not just lines on a map but also arteries through which trade, culture, and human connection flow.
He emphasized that these borders have been exploited for too long, allowing small arms and light weapons to fuel violence, smuggling contraband goods, and trafficking vulnerable people.
