Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has vowed not to negotiate with bandits or pay ransom for kidnapped victims, stating that such actions would only exacerbate insecurity in the state.
Bago stated that during a condolence visit to the people of Rijau and Magama Local Government Areas, where they were recently attacked by bandits.
He emphasized that the state is in a state of war and that it is a constitutional duty to protect the lives and property of the people.
Bago also announced plans to recruit and train 10,000 members into the Joint Task Force (JTF) to restore security.
He also declared a total ban on mining across Zone C of the state, citing illegal mining as a major driver of insecurity.
