Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York to attend the 80th week-long session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in UN high-level general debates, and attend various side events.
Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to effective multilateralism and enhanced partnerships.
Shettima will announce Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement and attend the high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing.
Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s leadership in the United Nations Global Convention on Taxation and its push to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
He also emphasized Nigeria’s contributions to peacekeeping operations and the UN, including the Middle East, Gaza, Palestine, Eastern Congo, and Sudan.
The Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, believes Nigeria’s participation in the 80th UNGA will further reposition the country as an investment destination and one of the leading economies in Africa.
