Niger State Government has issued a two-month notice for the resettlement of residents in hamlets around Kainji Lake as part of a strategy to combat insecurity and flush out criminals using the area as a hideout.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago highlighted the urgency of the resettlement during a condolence visit to the Emir of Borgu, following a recent terrorist attack.
He emphasized the need for collaboration between the Emirate Council and security agencies to address security concerns exacerbated by unprofiled population influx.
The Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, expressed federal support for efforts to ensure peace, while the Emir pledged cooperation in identifying and prosecuting informants contributing to insecurity.
Bago extended condolences to the victims’ families and reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing safety and community well-being.
