Niger State will benefit from the Regional Office Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), initiated by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in collaboration with ECOWAS.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago emphasized the initiative’s role in electrifying health care centers and educational institutions, positioning Niger as a pilot state.
The project will initially electrify 15 facilities, with plans for expansion.
ECOWAS President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray outlined the partnership’s progress toward finalizing technical requirements for solar power implementation, aiming for completion by mid-June 2026.
Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, Managing Director of REA, noted the initiative’s alignment with REA’s goals and highlighted Niger State’s existing renewable energy projects as a strong foundation for collaboration.
