Ghana has welcomed 14 Nigerians deported from the US under President Donald Trump, with Ghana facilitating their return to their home countries.

The US has approached several African countries to accept deportees, including Jamaica, Vietnam, and Laos, as part of its campaign to deter immigration.

However, some countries have pushed back against the deportation strategy, with Nigeria stating it would not bow to pressure to accept third-country migrants from the US.

Ghana-US relations are described as a “tightening situation” due to increased US tariffs and visa restrictions on Ghanaian goods.
