Niger state governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced plans to increase sugar production by earmarking 20,000 hectares of land.
The move was made during a visit to the Tagwai Dam and feed lots by foreign investors.
Bago emphasized the importance of understanding the value chain in agriculture and plans to increase seed production.
He also expressed optimism about collaborations with Brazilians to develop animal pastures for livestock feed and quality milk production.
The governor also pledged to use the state’s natural resources to provide water for year-round production.
The collaboration will also transform farmers’ livelihoods through various agriculture programs and ensure the equitable distribution of seeds.
