China has pledged strong support for Nigeria in response to U.S. criticisms regarding the country’s religious issues.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning condemned external interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, emphasizing China’s role as a comprehensive strategic partner and supporting Nigeria’s right to choose its development path.

Mao’s remarks follow U.S. President Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” due to alleged persecution of Christians, with Trump threatening to suspend aid or take military action if the situation does not improve.

This comes amid growing pressure from U.S. evangelical groups for decisive action against perceived religious persecution in Nigeria.
